Timber. A commonly used term for tree’s falling in one smooth movement. This is often not possible due to space restrictions, health and safety risk and risk of damaging property particularly common in urban environments. Therefore, we have had to adapt our removal techniques and in such situations we will fell a tree in sections.
Utilising lowering ropes we dismantle the tree in several smaller, more manageable sections. The sections are created using a step cut, breaking off the branches and then using a lowering method known as a controlled throw with the lowering ropes. By using the ropes, sections of trees are under our control at all times throughout the removal process.
There are many stories of such methods causing unnecessary damage to property when removing larger trees. Our team has never suffered such an accident and that is due to their high level of competence and the experience that comes with many years in the industry.
Straight Tree Felling
The second technique is probably most associated with tree surgery as a whole. Trees removed using straight tree felling will be carefully cut at a calculated area at the base of the tree. Using ropes to control the movement, the tree is then allowed to fall under gravity in one smooth movement to ground level. Once the tree is at ground level our team can then efficiently dismantle the tree ready for removal from the premises.
This method is often used in forestry and large open areas where the risk of damage to property is nil. Given the architecture of Folkestone and its tight knit property development, this method of felling is used a lot less when compared to section felling.
Working safely, we always ensure that trees felled in this manner are done so where the risk of accident is non-existent. Smaller, more manageable trees can be taken down using this technique.
